BioChar 101 - Why it is amazing

Biochar is one of my favorite tools for building healthier soil over time, especially in tired garden beds.

What is biochar?

Soil health and long-term resilience

Biochar is charcoal made from organic material in a low oxygen burn. Unlike ash, it keeps a stable carbon structure that can hold nutrients and moisture in the soil.

When charged with compost tea, worm juice, or diluted nutrients before use, it becomes a habitat for soil life rather than a dry, empty material.

I like using biochar in veggie beds, fruiting zones, and new soil mixes where moisture retention and microbial activity need a boost.

It is not a complete fertilizer by itself, but as part of compost systems it can noticeably improve resilience in hotter and drier periods.

Image note: Biochar can be made from clean organic waste and reused where it matters most in your soil.
